Every week, The DC Sports Bog (an online site managed by The Washington Post) will post their Atlantic 11, which comprises the top 11 D-1 college hoops teams within DC, Maryland and Virginia (27 in total, for those counting at home). This poll is conducted by a group of voters, myself included, who vote for their top 10. Every week, I’ll post my ballot here.

Even though it’s the “Atlantic 11”, they only ask the voters for their top 10 teams. Just in case anyone thought I was that poor at math.

1: Virginia: If you had Miami +8 on Saturday, my deepest condolences.

Last Week – W vs Davidson, 83-72. W at Miami (FL), 89-80 (2OT)

This Week – NC State, At Notre Dame

2: Maryland: The Terps are taking to the B1G 10 just fine, as they somehow figured out how to play in a double OT game where neither team broke 70.

Last Week – W at Michigan State 68-66 (2OT). W vs Minnesota 70-58

This Week – At Illinois, At Purdue

3: VCU: The Rams take on Davidson this week in Richmond. I hear the Micro Machines guy will be doing play by play.

Last Week – W vs Cleveland State, 72-63. W at Fordham, 75-58.

This Week – Davidson, Saint Joseph’s

4: George Washington: Colonials freshman forward Yuta Watanabe is the 4th Japanese born D-1 basketball player ever. I was the 4th person in my family tree to learn how to use chopsticks.

Last Week – W vs VMI, 80-60. W at Saint Joseph’s, 64-60

This Week – Saint Louis, At LaSalle

5: Old Dominion: I swear ODU joined C-USA solely for the frequent flyer miles.

Last Week – W vs Mount Saint Mary’s, 69-35. W at Charlotte, 61-54

This Week – At Marshall, At Western Kentucky

6: Georgetown: Georgetown spent last week playing Xavier and Creighton. Coincidentally, the two most popular names of Georgetown undergrads are Xavier and Creighton.

Last Week – L at Xavier, 70-53. W vs Creighton, 76-61

This Week – Marquette, At Providence

7: Richmond: On Saturday, Richmond lost in a Davidson domination and an Adam Sandler “Cajun Man” skit wrote itself.

Last Week – L vs Northeastern, 58-57. L at Davidson, 81-67

This Week – George Mason, Saint Bonaventure

8: American: The most popular poster in AU dorm rooms? David Gregory arguing a DC parking ticket.

Last Week – L at Bucknell, 57-47. W vs Holy Cross, 53-49

This Week – At Loyola (MD), Colgate

9: Norfolk State: Quick reminder for any announcer out there covering a Spartans game, it’s pronounced “naw-FECK”, not “NOR-folk”.

Last Week – L at Baylor, 92-51. L at Georgia, 63-50

This Week – At Princeton, At Florida A&M

10: William & Mary: I’d drive down to a William & Mary game just to have an excuse to go to Paul’s Deli.

Last Week – L at North Carolina, 86-64. W vs College of Charleston, 75-45

This Week – At Drexel, At Elon

I agree with placements; however, I’d like to see Mason in the mix!

Mason was my first team out. They’ve played a ridiculously tough schedule, and with a solid start in conference play they’ll definitely jump into my top 10.
